eurocodes & design standardas
Junior Level
This program provides an advanced and practice-oriented understanding of Eurocodes and related design standards, with a strong focus on their application in real engineering projects. It covers how Eurocodes are systematically used in structural design, dimensioning, and documentation in accordance with current regulations.
Participants will develop the ability to work independently with the standards, understand the interaction between different parts of the Eurocode system, and apply requirements in complex project scenarios.
Target Group
- Students and recent graduates
- Junior engineers
- Professionals transitioning into structural engineering
Practical Project
- Participants will complete a comprehensive design project in which they select a realistic structure, such as a multi-story building or structural system, define load assumptions in accordance with EN 1991, establish load combinations in both ULS and SLS, design selected structural elements in concrete, steel, or timber, apply relevant National Annexes, and document the entire design process according to professional standards, while reflecting on safety, robustness, and key design decisions.
Learning Content
- Structure and interaction within the Eurocodes system (EN 1990–EN 1999)
- Basis of design and reliability levels (EN 1990)
- Advanced load analysis and load combinations (EN 1991)
- ULS and SLS – verification and checks
- Material-specific standards: Concrete (EN 1992) Steel (EN 1993) Timber (EN 1995)
- Application and importance of National Annexes (NA)
- Integration of Eurocodes into BIM and analysis tools
- Interpretation of standards in complex project environments
Learning Outcome
- After completing the program, participants will be able to:
-
Apply Eurocodes systematically in structural design
- Perform and verify load combinations according to EN 1990/1991
- Carry out design checks in ULS and SLS
- Correctly interpret and apply National Annexes
- Select appropriate design methods for different materials
- Identify and manage uncertainties and safety levels
- Integrate Eurocodes into digital models and analysis tools
- Work independently on complex structural design tasks
